Twelve aspiring chefs, from all walks of life, each with a dream of running their own restaurant, head into the one-of-a-kind Hell's Kitchen, a fine dining restaurant with two fully working kitchens.

The contestants make their signature dishes for Chef Ramsay and they get a rude awakening when he critiques their dishes. The Chef surprises them by opening the restaurant for service the second night and the contestants fail miserably.

The contestants are rudely awoken at 6am. The sous chefs ambush them, banging pots and pans.  They are hustled into the kitchen where they have ten minutes to clean as much squid as possible.

Gordon evens out the teams by sending Michael to the Red Team. The teams are sent to a store where they must play the Grocery Grab challenge. They must get all of the ingredients to create a five course VIP meal for Gordon.

The Blue Team starts off strong winning the 'Perfect Table' challenge. They are sent to the dorm for some pampering by spa professionals, while the losing Red Team polishes all the silverware in the dining room.

The restaurant is transformed into a pasta house in this episode. The challenge is which team can make the most pasta by weight.

In an effort to test everyone's palates Chef Gordon gives them a taste test. The team that guesses the most food items correctly will be sent off to enjoy a lovely afternoon away from Hell's Kitchen - tasting wines.

The two teams merge into one as the team competition ends and the individual race begins. Jimmy nudges out Elsie during the tableside flambe challenge and is rewarded with a helicopter ride with Chef Ramsay.

Who can make the best dish with a bowl of the same leftovers? Gordon's favourite is Elsie's chicken soup. After kitchen prep, they all go for an evening run with Gordon to get in some personal time with him

The five competitors are now playing individually and will be cooking for a group of 'trendsetters'.  Whoever has the best dish will be rewarded with a trip to the place of the grand prize, Green Valley Ranch, with Gordon Ramsay.

The three chefs meet chef Ramsay's greatest mentor, his mum. For the challenge, each contestant must turn a homemade comfort food into a gourmet dish. Chef Ramsay also brings in some special judges, the mothers of the final three.
