In Murcia, the body of a man reportedly carried away by floodwaters was recovered, according to news reports.

While in Gran Canaria, the sudden storm swept cars into the sea.

Spain’s national weather agency, Aemet, issued a red alert for Gran Canaria on Monday, with warnings expected to stay in place until Thursday.

More than 40mm of rain could fall in an hour, with over 400mm falling possibly over the week.

Footage released by Telde City Council in Gran Canaria on Monday, March 3, showed workers clearing floodwaters and debris.

Spanish authorities have urged people to avoid travel while the cleanup continues.

This comes just months after devastating floods in southern Spain claimed more than 200 lives.
