Battleground Anglia: Milton Keynes South

As well as some of the new town areas in Milton Keynes, this seat encompasses the old railway towns of Bletchley (famous for its Second World War code-breaking activities), Stony Stratford and Fenny Stratford.

The constituency has the largest population of any seat in the Anglia region at 127,023 in the 2011 Census.

Milton Keynes South is a key marginal seat in the Anglia region which the Conservatives gained in 2010 with a majority of 5,201 votes. Iain Stewart has been the MP since 2010.

Labour would need a swing of 4.7% to win Milton Keynes South which is nearly the scale of swing required to create an overall majority at Westminster.

Labour held the seat between 1997 and 2010 with the Conservatives holding it between 1983 and 1997.

In the most recent local elections in Milton Keynes in 2014, the Conservatives took a 28% share of the vote while Labour were on 27%. However Labour are the largest party on the hung council.

UKIP took 20% of the votes but won just a single seat. The Lib Dems polled 16% of the vote but won 13 council seats.
