One of the biggest public sports events in the East of England has marked its 10th anniversary.

The 10th edition of Run Norwich took place on a 10km circuit around closed roads in the city centre, and with around 7,800 runners competing, it was the highest number of starters in the event’s history.

Emma Fletcher-Dungay, head of fundraising at Norwich City Community Sports Foundation, and race organiser, said: "I won't lie to you, I've had a few tears along the route.

"It's incredible, to see so many people want to come out, and we talk about lots of causes they go for. It's a big massive roller coaster of emotions and one that I wouldn't change for the world."

Around 20,000 spectators lined the streets as runners braved the heat to raise money for a host of local causes, including 800 runners who turned out for the Community Sports Foundation, the club's official charity.

The race finished in front of City Hall with Holly Archer from Bury St Edmunds the first woman to cross the line for the second year running, in a time of 35:34.

Archer, who is a member of the Cambridge and Coleridge Athletics Club, said: "Every single one of those people finishing, would have gone through one, two, three levels of pain out there and it's nice to have shared that with them.

"Everybody would have hurt, even me, yes I won - but it was painful."

In the men’s race, the honours were taken by Marshall Smith of Ashford Athletics Club with a time of 31:28.
