Investigation launched after teenager found dead in Stranraer

A 17-year-old boy has been found dead in a street in Dumfries and Galloway.

He was reported as unresponsive in the Dalrymple Street area of Stranraer near the Galloway Community Hospital at around 5.20am on Sunday 17 August.

He was declared dead at the scene.

Police Scotland are investigating but say there does not appear to be any suspicious circumstances. His next of kin have been informed.

A force spokesperson said: “Around 5.20am on Sunday we received a report of an unresponsive person in the Dalrymple Street area of Stranraer.

“Emergency services attended and a 17-year-old male youth was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin are aware.

“Enquiries are ongoing but there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances.

“A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
