Advice from Severn Trent for residents using water supply
Severn Trent are advising their customers after being told they can use their water supply again.
Almost 3,700 homes in Derbyshire and Leicestershire were affected from Friday by contaminated tap water.
Residents were told not to use the tap water due to dangerous levels of chlorine and instead used bottled water
There was an issue at a reservoir in Castle Donington.
Advice for residents using the water supply for first time:
You should first run your cold tap at full flow for five minutes, but after that it will be fine to use.
If you have a hot water tank, this may have stored water with high chlorine levels, therefore run your hot water taps as well.
If you do have discoloured water we have no reason to believe that there is any risk to your health, and you can help to clear it by running your tap for up to 20 minutes.
Some customers may notice a slight difference in the taste of the water today – this is just while we get the network back to normal and again, this will settle down shortly.
The water company say they are investigating what caused the problem and identifying how they will compensate all 3,700 customers, both domestic and business, who were directly affected for an extended period of time.
