Duo with only real Ghostbusters limo in UK in demand as new film set for release
The only 'real' Ghostbusters limo on the UK roads is much in demand with the new Ghostbusters film only days away.
Paul Harborne and Tim Jordan are the owners of the 1959 Cadillac Miller Meteor ambulance, one of the world’s rarest cars.
The pair bought the rotten wreck, then little more than a rusted shell, in 2008. They spent three years turning it into an exact copy of the big-screen Caddy from the original 1980s comedy film.
Because so few exist, Paul and Tim had to craft many of the parts themselves, right down to the fan-tom belt.
The limo is now worth £200,000. They cost a fortune in 1959: the $9,000 price-tag is the equivalent of £400,000 in today’s money.
Under the guise of Ghostbusters Car Hire, the pair are out every weekend, taking the vehicle to weddings, funerals, fetes, proms and publicity shoots.
“It’s gone bonkers,” says the 54-year-old Sedgley car buff, Paul, a mechanic by trade.
But an advertisement offering what was left of a Miller Meteor, stored in Leicester, gave Paul fresh hope.
The pair pooled their skills. Kingswinford’s Tim is a paint-sprayer. They set out to work on the mammoth task. They reckon the labour costs alone ran to £100,000.
Paul and Tim soon realised that trying to produce a slavish copy of the big screen model was near impossible.
