Man appears in court accused of murdering a mother of four in Birmingham

A man has appeared in court accused of murdering a mother of four in Birmingham.
Emergency services had found the body of Irene Mbugua at a house in Winson Green last Monday (June 23rd).
34-year-old David Walsh was arrested a short time later.
Officers say Irene had been working as a carer for Walsh.
A post-mortem later revealed that she died as a result of serious head and face injuries.
Walsh was initially treated in hospital and later charged with murder and assaulting a number of police officers.
Appearing at Birmingham Magistrates yesterday (30 June), Walsh was remanded in custody to appear at Birmingham Crown Court later this week.
West Midlands Police, Detective Inspector Michelle Cordell said: “Our thoughts remain with Irene’s family and loved ones at this extremely difficult time.
“They are being supported by our specialist officers and we continue to keep them up to date with the latest developments.”
In a statement following her death, Irene’s family paid tribute to her: "It’s so sad that you got snatched from us in such a cruel manner. We are so lost without you and we pray for Grace to face each day mum, your beautiful smile and hearty laughter will be missed.
"Please just remind us on how to join the dots because we don’t have a map yet. Rest easy you remain in our hearts forever."
