Former Lieutenant Governor of Guernsey Vice Admiral Sir John Coward dies

The former Lieutenant Governor of Guernsey, Vice Admiral Sir John Coward, has died.

Serving as Lieutenant Governor between 1994 and 2000 Sir John Coward made a ‘big impact’ on many he met.

Before moving to Guernsey he served as a Submariner throughout the Cold War.

During the Falklands War he was the Captain of HMS Brilliant. The ship is said to have been one of the only that engaged in ‘ship-to-ship combat’ and came under the attack of Argentinian aircraft.

We are very sad to learn of the death of Vice Admiral Sir John Coward yesterday. He left a big impression on the house. Many islanders have fond memories of Sir John and Lady Coward. He frequently opened the grounds to islanders and gave them their first glimpse inside the house. Our thoughts and prayers are with Lady Coward and the whole family.
