Jersey business owner jailed after importing thousands of ecstasy tablets via post

A Jersey business owner has been jailed for six years after customs officers seized a commercial quantity of Class A drugs they found in a package addressed to him.
Michael Veloso, 29, initially denied any involvement but later admitted importing more than 5,500 tablets of ecstasy and the synthetic substance 2C-B.
The parcel from Germany was sent to his business address in St Saviour and its contents had a maximum street value of £167,000.
Luke Goddard, Senior Manager at Jersey Customs and Immigration Service (JCIS), says: "This is a very large seizure of Class A drugs by anyone's standard and had the potential to cause serious harm to users.
"This seizure demonstrates the ongoing efforts by JCIS to seize dangerous drugs at the border, convict those responsible and disrupt the syndicates trying to profit from drug trafficking."
Anyone with information about drug smuggling is asked to report it to the police or anonymously via 0800 735 5555.
