A teenage boy has suffered a fractured skull after he was hit by a vehicle during a car meet.

The 14-year-old was badly injured just before 10pm on Friday, 30 January, at the Roman Way industrial estate in Preston, police said.

The boy, who was struck by a car suspected to have been driving antisocially, was taken to hospital to be treated for serious head injuries.

Lancashire Police say the suspected driver is being investigated for serious driving offences.

In a statement, Chief Inspector John Jennings-Wharton said while most car meets "can be a fun" and enjoyed in a safe and legal way, "there are some who decide to let the side down."

He said: "Whilst I would want not discourage anyone from attending car meets, please remember to respect the rules of the road and not put others at risk.

"I want to be clear. Anti-social driving, racing, or causing danger to other road users on public roads will not be tolerated.

"We will seek to prosecute the minority of drivers who are racing or driving anti-socially who in turn cause dismay for other road users and the wider communities who live close to these events."
