Mother of Warrington woman killed in Texas heads to US to campaign for fresh investigation

  • ITV News Granada Reports Correspondent Andy Bonner joined Lucy Harrison's mother in Dallas, Texas in her quest for justice for her daughter.

The mother of a young woman unlawfully killed by her father in Texas says she has faced a wall of silence from officials after taking her fight for a new investigation to the US.

Lucy Harrison, 23, was shot through the chest by her father Kris Harrison at his home in Prosper, Texas, on January 10 2025.

Her mother Jane has now travelled to the US, where she is calling for the investigation into Lucy's death to be reopened.

However, when she arrived at the town hall she was told the district attorney would not speak to her.

Jane, from Warrington, said: "It was clear that they had been told we were not going to be meeting with the prosecutor or the district attorney. We were told they were out in the field.

"I just think if they're not willing to meet with a bereaved mum and have an open dialogue... I'm no threat, I just want answers for my daughter and I just want answers for my daughter.

"I'm just doing what any parent would do."

Lucy's father claimed the Glock gun went off accidentally, and a Collin County grand jury decided there was insufficient evidence to bring manslaughter charges against him for his daughter's death.

But in February 2026 a coroner in England concluded Lucy had been unlawfully killed, finding that her father’s actions amounted to gross negligence manslaughter under UK law.

Jane said she had expected the unlawful killing conclusion to become a turning point in her campaign for justice, but so far the local US police force has refused to open their investigation.

Jane is being supported by lawyer Radd Seiger, who says the police investigation did not examine a number of factors which could have supported a prosecution.

"There isn't a shred of doubt in my mind... that this was not a thorough and complete investigation. They have to redo this," he said.

Mr Seiger says officers smelled alcohol on Mr Harrison's breath but he was never breathalysed, nor was the trajectory of the bullet examined.

While Jane has been unable to meet with the district attorney, she says she has received support from locals who want to help her campaign.

She said: "I wanted to focus on trying to get the investigation reopened, appealing to the people with influence and power who can drive justice for Lucy, to look again with professional curiosity."

Mr Seiger added: "They can sit there in Collin County as much as they like with their head in the sand and pretend this is all going to go away.

"Are they glad we are here? Clearly not. We are their worst nightmare."
