Black cab drivers bring London Bridge to a standstill in protest at TfL plans

London Bridge has been brought to a standstill for a second night in a row by black cabs drivers.

It's in protest at plans to improve safety and reduce harmful emissions by Transport for London who are proposing to restrict any vehicles other than buses and bicycles from nearby Tooley Street.

Drivers say that would be unfair and worry it will have an impact on their trade.

They are planning to bring traffic to a standstill on the bridge between 4pm and 7pm every day this week.

Transport for London said the action was 'unessecary'. Director of strategy and network development, Ben Plowden, said:

"A consultation is currently underway on changes to Tooley Street to improve conditions for people walking and cycling, or traveling by public transport.

"The best way for people to let us know what they think about these proposals is to respond to the consultation, so this type of protest is unnecessary.

"All feedback on our proposals will be thoroughly assessed and taken into account.”

The consultation ends in January.
