Warm welcome home for North Tyneside nurse who moved to hotel to protect family
A nurse from North Tyneside who was isolating from her family to protect them while she worked with coronavirus patients, was given a special welcome home.
Erin Davis has been staying at the Holiday Inn hotel, in Jesmond, forthree weeks. She said she wanted to protect her family from contracting the virus.
The 24 year old said she was moved to tears when she was granted permission to return to her home in Killingworth, to celebrate her birthday.
Neighbours were informed of Erin’s return by her 27-year-old brother,Brad Davis, after he posted letter to the houses on his street askingfor their united support. They turned out in force to welcome Erin home.
Around 60 residents gathered around her home, maintaining a safedistance, and clattered pans, clapped hands and cheered for Erin, whohas been working 14 hour shifts at Newcastle’s Royal VictoriaInfirmary.
From her doorstep, an emotional Erin looked on as people sang happybirthday and thanked her for her hard work and bravery.
She also received a special visit from her grandparents who held ahomemade banner out of their car window that read: “Happy birthdayErin, you’re our hero.”
Erin said that she is happy to be granted permission to move backhome following an assessment by her workplace, who examined hercurrent risk of contracting COVID-19.
