Object behind Omagh security alert which forced residents out of nursing home an 'elaborate hoax'

An elaborate hoax was behind a security alert in Omagh, police have said.

The suspicious object was found in the Culmore Park area on Friday morning, causing extensive disruption including the evacuation of a nursing home and other residential properties.

The Army bomb squad were sent to the scene. Cordons were lifted at around 3pm following their examinations.

Police thanked the community for support and patience. They appealed for anyone with information to contact 101, or anonymously through Crimestoppers.
