Two companies based in Swansea have been fined for call colding - the city's been dubbed the UK's cold calling capital

Swansea has been dubbed the UK's cold call capital after two more companies in the city were hit with large fines by the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

The ICO said Falcon and Pointer made millions of automated calls about PPI while Direct Choice Home Improvements Ltd traumatised people after asking to speak to their dead relatives.

Wales' second largest city has been home to a number of other nuisance call firms in recent years, with the ICO taking action against six companies there since 2013.

Officials said Falcon and Pointer had been hit with a £175,000 fine following more than 5,500 complaints - including one at 3.30am to a family whose grandfather was dying of cancer.

Falcon and Pointer, which had its license revoked by the Claims Management Regulator in January, told the ICO it had stopped making calls in June 2015.

The ICO also said it received 168 complaints about Direct Choice Home Improvements Ltd from people who were registered with the Telephone Preference Service.

One complaint read: "They wanted to speak to my mother who has been dead for over six years. This is the latest in a number of calls from this firm asking to speak to one of my dead parents."
