29-year-old woman appears in court charged with murder of John Rees in Penygraig

A woman has been remanded in custody charged with the murder of an 88-year-old man and attempted murder of three others in a supermarket in Penygraig.

Zara Anne Radcliffe, 29, is accused of the murder of John Rees, who died in an alleged stabbing incident inside a Co-Op store on Tuesday May 5.

Mr Rees’ family paid tribute to him saying he was the "very definition of a good man, extremely respected and liked in the community.''

Radcliffe, of Wyndham Street, Porth, is also charged with the attempted murder of Lisa Way, Andrew Price and Gaynor Saurin. One of those injured is believed to be an NHS worker.

She appeared at Cardiff Magistrates Court on Thursday morning, speaking only to confirm her name, date of birth and address during the two minute hearing.

No bail application was made and Radcliffe was remanded into custody. She will appear in Cardiff Crown Court on Monday May 11.
