Fundraiser launched to help family of Plymouth University lecturer who 'was loved by everyone'

A fundraising campaign has been launched to help the family of a woman who died in Plymouth.
Claire Chick, previously known as Claire Butler, was 48 and was found injured on West Hoe Road in Plymouth on Wednesday 22 January. Claire, who worked as a lecturer at the University of Plymouth's nursing school, died in hospital the next day.
Paul Butler, 53, has appeared in court charged with her murder and appeared in court on Monday 27 January.
Claire’s close friend Jo Taylor has now set up a crowdfunding campaign to support her family.
On the page Ms Taylor said: “She leaves behind two beautiful girls, five stunning grandchildren. All who are in total disbelief. I am trying to raise money towards her funeral.
“Claire spent her life giving to other people. Dedicating her life to being the best nurse I have ever known, she became a lecturer to train the nurses of our future, due to her passion there will be amazing nurses out there.
“I loved her from the moment I met her, we all did. She was loved by everyone who she met and whose lives she touched.
“Her infectious laugh is a sound I will never forget."
She added: "Claire did not deserve this to happen to her. I’m trying to lessen the pressure of costs for her girls."
So far, the fundraiser has collected more than £4,000 in donations and is continuing to grow.
Claire's family paid tribute to her last week, calling her "the most beautiful lively soul" and reflecting how her five grandchildren referred to her as "a favourite grandma".
