Postman jailed after fake injury scam unravels

A postman who tried to get hundreds of thousands of pounds compensation by falsely claiming an accident at work had left him disabled has been jailed for 18 months.

46-year-old, Belangeni Musumbu was hurt when a car hit the back of the Royal Mail van he was unloading in December 2010.

He submitted two separate doctors' reports claiming he was unable to return to work as he could not walk unaided, dress himself or drive.

Musumbu himself described feeling as though he had 'lost his life'.Musumbu was then medically retired and paid £23,500.

£292,000 was put in reserve to cover pay outs and legal costs.

His scam unravelled when investigators discovered pictures of Musumbu playing the guitar at the Rainforest World Music Festival in Malaysia.

He was also caught on camera loading boxes into his car, driving, shopping and carrying a guitar case over his shoulder with relative ease

Musumbu was also ordered to pay £24, 527.45 in compensation after he previously admitted two counts of fraud following an investigation by the City of London Police.
