10 year sentence for robbers who left phone at crime scene

Two robbers from Birmingham have been sentenced to ten years in jail between them after carrying out a robbery at a Kingstanding bank.

Jaymi Evans and Hughie Bradley tried to steal a large amount of cash from a businessman at HSBC on Kettlehouse Road on 2 December last year.

Birmingham Crown Court heard they threatened to shoot the man and subjected him to a sustained assault, witnessed by customers and staff at the branch.

They failed to snatch a holdall containing £25,000 but made off with wads of cash totalling £3,000 which had spilled out onto the floor during the struggle - none of which has been recovered.

The robbers who were driven out of the branch by customers ended up dropping a mobile phone at the scene, and tried to recover it but were stopped.

Police were then able to examine the phone and determine Evans as the owner and found links to Bradley.Both men admitted being at the bank but denied any involvement in the robbery. However CCTV footage, forensics and mobile data placed them at the scene of the crime.

Jaymi Evans, aged 21, from Sutton New Road, Erdington, was sentenced to four years and eight months in prison and 24-year-old Hughie Bradley, from Copshill Court, Sutton Coldfield, received a sentence of five years and four months in prison.Detective Constable Christopher Warren-Smith said:
