The NHS website page on the illness received more than 11 times as many visits on Wednesday, when the royal news was revealed, compared to Tuesday. 

The condition is very common and it impacts around 80% of men over 70 years of age - including King Charles.

The study by scientists at Cancer Research UK has found that men with a faulty gene face a significantly higher risk.

A Bristol surgeon has pioneered a new way of treating men with an enlarged prostate. The operation has also been given NICE approval.
