Homes evacuated after number of suspected unexploded devices found at Morpeth property

Several properties have been evacuated following the discovery of a number of suspected unexploded devices at a property in Northumberland.

Officers found the devices during a search of a property on Olivers Mill, in Morpeth, on Wednesday (24 September) as part of an ongoing police investigation.

A spokesperson from the North East Regional Organised Crime Unit said: “Early this morning (Wednesday) while searching a property on Olivers Mill in Morpeth as part of an ongoing investigation, officers discovered what appeared to be a small number of suspected unexploded devices.

“Explosive Ordinance Disposal team are in attendance.

“A small number of properties in the area have been evacuated as a precaution.”

An area near Chantry Place, Morpeth, is currently cordoned off by police officers.Multiple police vehicles and officers can be seen in attendance, with the cordon also in place at Waterside and Carlisle View. A forensic team is also at the scene.
