North East MP's letter of resignation from front bench
The MP for Durham North has quit Labour's front bench, because he disagrees with leader Jeremy Corby's views on Britain nuclear deterrent.
Kevan Jones MP wrote a letter to Mr Corbyn explaining why he thought he had to step down. He then published a copy of the letter on Twitter.
Kevan Jones has served the Labour Party as a defence minister, and as a shadow defence minister in opposition.
He believes that Britain needs a nuclear deterrent, while his leader, Jeremy Corbyn, opposes the renewal of Britain’s Trident nuclear weapons system.
