North Yorkshire fracking plan considered again
An application to frack for shale gas at a site in North Yorkshire will be considered again by county councillors today.
A vocal crowd of anti-fracking campaigners greeted the council's planning committee at County Hall in Northallerton on Friday, when it began considering the plan.
On that day, members heard from dozens of people who oppose to the scheme on environmental and economic grounds. Today councillors are due to hear from those in favour.
The plan, from the company Third Energy, centres on its site close to Kirby Misperton, between Malton and Pickering. It wants to test for shale gas at an existing well. The firm says it has been drilling wells and producing gas safely and discreetly there for over twenty years and will continue to maintain their same standards in future.
Council officers have recommended the scheme is approved.
