A police investigation is underway after a Catholic church was damaged in a 'deliberate fire' in Londonderry.

An outbuilding adjacent to Holy Family Church in the Ballymagroarty area of the city was set alight at around 10.30pm on Friday 24 May.

The blaze spread to the church and nearby parochial house causing damage to both. The outbuilding was completely destroyed.

Detective Constable Fielding said police believe "two males may have been involved in starting this fire."

He continued, "We would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at around the time of the fire or anyone who may have information regarding this crime."
