Wynne Evans to step back from Strictly Come Dancing tour after 'unacceptable' comment
ITV Wales Correspondent Richard Morgan reports from outside BBC Wales in Cardiff on Tuesday.
Welsh opera singer Wynne Evans has said he's to “take some time out” from his radio show and the Strictly Come Dancing live tour.
It's after he apologised for an “inappropriate and unacceptable” remark made during the tour launch earlier in the month.
He said: “I’ve agreed with the BBC that I’ll take some time out from my radio show and the Strictly Live tour, as well as my other public commitments, to prioritise my wellbeing.
“I am deeply sorry for the pain my inappropriate actions have caused, and plan to take this time for self-reflection.
“Apologies to those I won’t get to see at the remaining performances and I’m grateful to my fellow tour gang for all the amazing support they have given me.”
The Welsh radio presenter and opera singer is facing backlash after making a sexualised comment during the launch event for the Strictly Come Dancing live tour on January 16.
Evans, who appeared on the BBC One show last year alongside dance partner Katya Jones, was reportedly filmed making the remark to a woman during the event.
The Mail on Sunday first reported the incident, which quickly gained attention after a video surfaced.
The PA News Agency says Evans was given a formal warning by tour producers in response to the comment.
A spokesperson for the Strictly live tour and BBC Studios said that they had not been made aware of any complaints prior to the video emerging, but emphasised that such behaviour would not be tolerated on the tour.
“We have made it very clear to Wynne that we do not condone such remarks,” the spokesperson said.
The incident has led to Evans stepping back from his usual role on BBC Radio Wales, with presenter Robin Morgan filling in for him.
