Two men charged under Terrorism Act following suspected firearm seizure in Derry

Two men arrested during searches in Londonderry which resulted in a suspected firearm being recovered have been charged with a number of offences.

The PSNI's Terrorism Investigation Unit detained both suspects, aged 20 and 24, under the Terrorism Act following searches in the city which began last Thursday and concluded on Saturday.

A court granted detectives an additional 72 hours to question the men at Musgrave Serious Crime Suite.

They have now both been charged with possession of firearm(s) or ammunition in suspicious circumstances, possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear or violence and possessing a handgun without a certificate.

Both suspects are due to appear before Londonderry Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, October 27.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "As is usual procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service".
