Sex assault doctor report published

A report by NHS England into the actions of a doctor who filmed intimate examinations at his practice in Royal Wootton Basset has found that a senior partner at the surgery had 'ongoing concerns' about him.

Davinder Jeet Bains was sentenced to 12 years in prison in May after admitting 39 charges of sexual assault. But NHS England says there's a lot of work to be done to restore public faith in the profession. Laura Makin-Isherwood reports.

A family doctor jailed for filming himself sexually abusing female patients in Wiltshire has been struck off the medical register.

Davinder Jeet Bains used a secret camera hidden inside his watch to assault more than two dozen women at the surgery in Royal Wootton Bassett. The 46-year-old was jailed for 12 years in May.

Following a two-day hearing, the independent Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service panel said the only way to protect patients and maintain public confidence was to remove him from the General Medical Council's register.

Bains has 28 days to lodge an appeal against his removal from the register.

A 2-day medical tribunal starting today will decide whether a GP jailed for sexually assaulting and secretly filming his patients is fit to practise.

Davinder Bains, 45 and from Nythe in Swindon, was given a 12-year sentence in May 2013. The abuse took place at the Tinkers Lane Medical Practice in Royal Wootton Bassett, Wiltshire. Bains had fitted a tiny camera into his watch in order to film himself abusing female patients.
