The word Hero may instantly conjure up the image of a caped crusader, but last night, The Health Hero of the Year Awards sought to honour heroes of a different kind.
In March, Prime Minister David Cameron launched a nationwide search, also in association with This Morning, to find healthcare workers on the frontline and behind the scenes, who make a real difference in the healthcare sector.
The British public were asked to nominate their unsung heroes who go the extra mile for their patients. Thousands were narrowed down to just five finalists, and last night Dr John Cormack from Essex scooped the top prize!
