Local Elections round-up for South and South East
Voters in the ITV Meridian region headed to the polls on Thursday for local elections. Voting took place at 88 councils across England, Wales and Scotland until polling stations closed at 10pm.

What does the local election 2017 results mean for you?
Ukip wiped out in the Thames Valley
Ukip lost all of its councillors on Hampshire County Council which meant a substantial gain for the Tories - who now have 56 members - up by 10.
The Liberal Democrats increased its number by one.
In Oxfordshire, the county council is still in no overall control. The Tories kept their seats but did not make a gain.
In Buckinghamshire - the Conservatives and Independents gained councillors.
The Conservatives held on to Wiltshire, taking seats from all other parties.
In Surrey, they gained two seats.

Substantial gains for Tories in the west of the region
There have been substantial gains for the Tories in the south west of the region.
Ukip lost all ten seats on Hampshire County Council.
It meant a substantial gain for the Tories - who now have 56 councillors.
Liberal Democrats increased their number by one and Labour lost two, with Ukip losing the lot.
On the Isle of Wight, 10 extra seats for the Conservatives give them an overall majority at the expense of the Independents.
In Dorset, Conservatives retained control although leader Robert Gold lost his seat to the Liberal Democrats.
The Greens now have two seats and Labour lost three of their four councillors.
The Conservatives held on to Wiltshire, taking seats from all other parties.
In West Sussex the Conservatives increased their grip, swamping both the Lib Dems and Labour.

Tories control all three south east county councils
The Conservatives are now controlling all three county councils in the south east.
The Liberal Democrats have held on to what they had and Labour lost six seats.
Ukip have been wiped out in Kent and Sussex losing all 18 seats, with the Greens holding on to their seat.
It meant a substantial gain for the Tories, who now have 67 councillors, up 24 seats.
In East Sussex, the Conservatives who were previously the largest party but without overall control - now take control.
They have 30 seats as Ukip lost the lot.

Conservatives hold on to Wiltshire gaining 7 seats
The Conservatives have held on to Wiltshire gaining 7 seats in the council's unitary election.
The party won 68 seats, up on their previous 61.
Labour held on to three seats, losing one seat.
The Liberal Democrats held on to 20 seats, losing two.
Seven seats were won by Independent candidates, a loss of three.
Ukip lost their only seat on the council.
The turnout for the election was 39.59% of an electorate of 361,681.
Counting begins in Abingdon
The local election count has begun in Abingdon, with all 63 seats on Oxfordshire County Council up for re-election.
32 seats are needed to take control of the council, with 16 being declared so far.

Local election count begins in Aylesbury
Conservatives retain overall control of Hampshire
The Conservative Party has retained overall control of Hampshire County Council in the local elections.
The party won 56 seats of the 78 seats on the County Council.
The UKIP vote collapsed in Hampshire, with no seats won by the party.
The Liberal Democrats won 19, Labour won 2 and the Community Campaign (Hart) won one.
In comparison to the 2013 elections, when the political make up of the County Council was 45 Conservatives, 17 Liberal Democrats, ten UK Independence Party, four Labour, one Independent, and one Community Campaign (Hart).
The turnout for the 2017 County Council elections was 36% of the electorate.
Three new Sussex seats for Conservatives
The Conservatives have won three new seats on East Sussex County Council. They won the seats from Labour. The count has been held in Hastings, with other parts of East and West Sussex making declarations later today.
Conservatives stay ahead of Lib Dems in Hampshire County Council's Winchester wards
The Conservatives have won four of the seven seats on Hampshire County Council in the Winchester area overnight, with the Liberal Democrats securing the three others around the city. This matches the same outcome as the county council elections four year ago.
Winchester has long been a battleground between the two parties and the the Lib Dems were hopeful that the strong support for Remain at the EU referendum last year would work in their favour - 59% of those who voted supported us staying in Europe nearly a year ago.
Some seats did swap hands. The Lib Dems gained the Winchester Eastlands ward from the Conservatives, while the Tories took Winchester Downlands from the Lib Dems.
Labour, the Green Party and UKIP ended the night empty handed in this part of the county council's catchment area.

- Martin Tod (Lib Dem) held his seat in Winchester Westgate
- Andrew Wainwright (Green Party) failed to win a seat
