Parents' tribute to 19 year-old cyclist killed in Bath

The parents of 19 year-old Jake Gilmore have issued the following tribute to him:

Jake was a lad on the threshold of adulthood and anyone who met Jake could see on his face that he was open for whatever life had to offer. All he wanted was to spend time with his friends, and that was what he was doing when we lost him. He was happy.

We don't want to measure life by its length, but by its quality, and his friends are helping us do that.

Our lives changed on that Sunday and at the moment our hearts are heavy, but we will cherish the fabulous memories of our time with him.

Calls to improve cycle safety

There are calls tonight for greater tolerance between cyclists and drivers after a number of deaths on the roads of Bristol and Bath.

Three cyclists have been killed in the last week alone. Now police and safety campaigners are calling for greater care to be taken by everyone who uses the roads to try to prevent further tragedy.

A 'Ghost bike' has been placed on Midland Bridge Road in Bath as a tribute to Jake Gilmore.

The cyclist died at the weekend when he was hit by a car. The driver failed to stop.

A 52 year old man has been arrested and released on bail.

Memorial cycle ride planned

A bike ride is to take place in Bath a week on Friday in memory of the cyclist killed in a hit and run at the weekend.

A so-called "ghost bike" has appeared on Midland Bridge road as a tribute to Jake Gilmore who was hit by a car on Saturday night.

The ride in Jake's memory will leave Bath's Kingsmead Square at 5.30pm Friday 29 November.

Released on bail by police

A 52 year old man arrested after the death of a cyclist in Bath has been released on bail.

19 year old Jake Gilmore died on Midland Bridge Road last Saturday. It's believed he was hit by a car. The driver failed to stop.

Man arrested over Bath cyclist's death

A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after the death of a cyclist in Bath. Jake Gilmore, 19, was killed following the collision on Midland Road Bridge on Saturday night. The driver failed to stop.

Yesterday evening police officers on patrol found a VW Golf abandoned near Royal Victoria Park, Bath. The car had damage consistent with the collision and has been seized for forensic examination.

Further enquiries were conducted which lead to the arrest of a 52 year-old man from Bath on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He is currently in police custody where he will be interviewed about the incident.
