ITV Studios has partnered with British space media company Sen to launch Space Live, which will deliver continuous live 4K views of Earth from orbit, making this unique view accessible to ITVX users across the UK from 15th October. 

Space Live will stream real-time ultra HD footage captured from the International Space Station.  Using Sen’s proprietary SpaceTV-1 camera system, mounted on the ESA’s Columbus module, viewers will be able to experience cinematic perspectives of Earth as they happen - from sweeping horizon shots to detailed imagery spanning over 240km of terrain below.

The collaboration has been spearheaded by Zoo 55, ITV Studios’ digital content label. 

With audiences increasingly seeking immersive, always-on content, Space Live positions ITV Studios and Sen at the forefront of the next wave of streaming innovation - combining world-class technology, real-time storytelling, and cinematic imagery designed to inspire millions.

Space Live will also be available on other global streaming services, with further partners to be announced.

Charles Black was born in York and grew up in a small village, where looking up at the night sky sparked a lifelong fascination with our place in the universe. In 1990, fresh out of school, he came up with the idea that would become Sen: to democratise space by streaming video of Earth and space exploration so it could be accessible to everyone. Friends remember him walking around with a white hat marked “Space TV” in biro, already obsessed with the thought of creating a media that could last forever in space and time.

At the time, the internet barely existed, space was the preserve of governments and broadcasting was expensive. Charles went on to study law and qualify as a barrister, but never lost sight of his vision. In 1996 he published a paper in a law journal predicting television would move online, removing the need for government licences.

Two years later, he launched his first internet business from his bedroom, originally called Space Internet before evolving into cloud computing company Nasstar. Floated on the London Stock Exchange in 2005, Nasstar was later acquired by private equity for £80M. Charles stepped down as CEO in 2014 to finally focus on building Sen.

He secured sen.com in 2008, hired his first engineers in 2016, and in 2019 Sen’s cameras began streaming video from space. Its first satellite launched in 2022 and today Sen provides a livestream direct from the International Space Station -  fulfilling the original idea of making space accessible to everyone.

Charles is open about being diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome, a form of autism, which he believes gives him the focus and determination to pursue his mission. For him, Sen is more than a company - it is a lifelong calling to democratise space.
