Researchers have found the tree to have been at least 100 to 120 years old when it was cut down in September 2023.

For almost a century the Sycamore Gap tree stood in a dip beside Hadrian's Wall, attracting people from across the globe, until it was felled in September 2023.

Adam Carruthers and Daniel Graham were "best pals" when they felled the Sycamore Gap tree. That friendship had fallen apart by the time the case went to trial.
