Birmingham New Street's grand opening
The new station at Birmingham New Street opens today after a building project that lasted five years, and together with the Grand Central shopping complex, cost around £750million to build.
Designer: New Street based on 'reflection of movement'
The Director of Design at Network Rail says the design of the exterior cladding on the new Birmingham New Street station is based on 'reflection of movement'.
Mirrored panels cover the station at different angles, so any movement nearby, by trains or people, will be reflected.
Carol Stitchman also says the new atrium will vastly improve the space inside the station, with sunlight able to light up the space.
