Stephen Kinnock, who's the son of the former Labour Leader Neil Kinnock, has been chosen as the party's candidate in Aberavon for the next Westminster election. He inherits an 11,000 majority from Hywel Francis, who is standing down.

Born in Tredegar, Stephen Kinnock has had an international career, with jobs in Russia and Switzerland. His wife is the Prime Minister of Demark.

She has visited Port Talbot with him as he sought the support of local Labour party members ahead of the selection meeting.

After his selection, Stephen Kinnock said his focus is now on maintaining Labour's hold an Aberavon, a seat that the party has held continuously since 1922.

“My campaign starts now and I’m looking forward to pounding the pavements and putting Labour’s offer to the people of Aberavon.” he said.
