North Wales Fire and Rescue Service says it will no longer respond to automatic fire alarms unless a back up 999 call is received.

In an effort to save £3m over the next fire years without cutting core services the fire authority says it will only "mobilise where we have confirmation or a genuine suspicion of a fire, which will avoid tying up our resources and preventing them from being available for real emergencies.”

It is urging the management of any premises in north Wales to review fire risk assessments and to take account of the changes and inform and train staff. The changes come into effect in April.
