Reds looking to replace Welsh fixture

Jersey Reds last hosted London Welsh in February 2016

Jersey Reds chairman Mark Morgan says they will look to fill the gap in their fixture list left by London Welsh’s removal from the Championship.

Welsh were granted a temporary licence to continue in the league after going into liquidation in December, but the RFU says the club has not meet the conditions which would have allowed them to complete the season.

It means the other sides are safe from relegation this campaign, while all of Welsh’s fixtures and results have been expunged - including their visit to St Peter on February 4.

Missing a game for our fans, missing a game from a revenue perspective is tough. We are looking to see if we can find a replacement fixture for the day. We need to keep the players running and playing and we need to give our fans something to watch. We’re speaking to France, we’re speaking to Premiership teams who may have an A team available to come and play us, and we’re also talking to other composite teams.
