An American fighter jet has crashed into apartments in Virginia. Witnesses say two buildings were set on fire. A navy spokesperson said the two crew members ejected safely.

All crash injured discharged from hospital as displaced residents seek new homes

All residents of an apartment complex for the elderly in Virginia that was destroyed when a U.S. Navy fighter jet crashed into it on Friday have been accounted for, and everyone injured have been discharged from a hospital, rescue officials said.

Many residents are now seeking somewhere to live after spending last night in a Red Cross shelter, officials said.

"Everyone has been accounted for" at the Mayfair Mews complex in Virginia Beach, the city's fire Chief Tim Riley told Reuters, after crews had searched into the night for three missing residents since the crash.

"We are not actively looking for anyone."

'Fighter jet destroyed 63 residents' homes'

Rescue services have finished their search for residents of the apartment complex that was hit by a fighter jet after searching through the night.

Virginia Beach Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Tim Riley said officials are now attending to the needs of the up to 63 residents whose apartments were destroyed, and finding long-term housing for them.

Six treated for injuries following fighter jet crash

Six people have been taken to a hospital with injuries after a Navy F-18 fighter crashed into a Virginia Beach, Virginia, apartment complex, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Both crew members ejected. One of them was in good condition and the other was in fair condition, said Emma Inman, a spokeswoman for the Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital.

Among other people hurt was a firefighter.

Injuries included smoke inhalation, she said.
