Labour to force European Arrest Warrant vote

The party are expected to push for it to happen next on November 19, saying it was necessary to avoid any later legal challenges.

Theresa May: Vote will determine EAW opt-in

Theresa May has said she is "very clear" that the European Arrest Warrant (EAW) is covered by a key parliamentary vote today on EU justice measures.

The Home Secretary was criticised by Labour and her own Tory colleagues after the EAW was not specifically mentioned in the Government's motions.

But Ms May said this was due to a procedural issue and the vote "will be the vote that determines whether or not we opt into these measures".

It is possible in the debate on the regulations to discuss those measures which are not listed in those regulations - and that is certainly what I and other Members of the House intend to do.

I am very clear, the Government is very clear that what we are debating... is the regulations which transpose into legislation those measures that need to be transposed.

The European Arrest Warrant is not in that list because it does not require to be transposed into our legislation, because that has already been done. But the Government is clear that the vote that will take place on the regulations will be the vote that determines whether or not we opt into these measures.
