Spate of accidents across southern Scotland

There have been a number of road accidents in Dumfries and Galloway and the Scottish Borders today, with one fatality:

  • 00:30 - two vehicle collision near Junction 15 on the M74. One woman was injured
  • 06:30 - one vehicle collision near Kirkpatrick Fleming on the M74. No injuries
  • 07:40 - one vehicle collision two miles south of Junction 15 on the M74. No injuries
  • 07:50 - one vehicle collision on the A76 near Mennock. Car flipped over and injured woman taken into ambulance
  • 08:40 - two vehicle collision on the A76 involving the ambulance transporting the woman involved in the 07:50 crash. 24-year-old Zoe Clark, driving a Vauxhall Corsa, died. Two ambulance staff and two patients in the ambulance taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary with further injuries
  • 09:20 - one vehicle collision on the A712, north of New Galloway. No injuries
  • Shortly before 09:00 - three vehicle collision including school bus, outside Borders College and Heriot Watt University campus in Galashiels. Two people hospitalised, but not thought to be injured

Police Scotland have warned drivers to take care in the cold conditions.
