A woman from Dumfries says she's traumatised after burglars broke into to her home and stole jewellery worth £50,000 whilst she was on holiday. She says her house insurance won't cover all the costs.

Jewellery theft worth £50k leaves Dumfries woman distraught

A woman from Dumfries has told ITV News Border she is distraught that burglars have taken £50,000 worth of jewellery from her home while she was on holiday.

Carol Williamson, whose family runs the Ivanos Italian takeaway in Dumfries, has said most of her jewellery was of sentimental value.

She believes that her home insurance will not cover the amount stolen.

It's thought that the theft happened sometime between July 3rd and July 10th.

The items stolen included:

  • An emerald and diamond ring, bracelet and necklace.
  • Pearl necklaces and a number of diamond rings and earrings.
  • A quantity of cash was also stolen in the raid.
  • A tanzanite and diamond ring, bracelet and necklace.
