More women than men have been named in the New Year Honours list for the first time ever - accounting for 51% of the recipients. They include actress Penelope Keith, singer Katherine Jenkins and Gavin and Stacey co-creator Ruth Jones.
Kevin McCloud, best known for his role as presenter of long-running TV series Grand Designs, has been honoured for his work on sustainable buildings and has been awarded an MBE.
McCloud's passion for sustainable living has led him to set up him his own firm, Hab, which created an award-winning development in Swindon - featured in another TV show, Kevin's Grand Design - and he is working on further projects.
The Democratic presidential candidate may also have shown his cards on his choice of running mate.
