Holme Valley Mountain Rescue Team were called out at 7pm last night to a party of three walkers, returning from Black Hill along the Pennine Way, who found their path had been cut off by rising water. They had set out from the lay-by on Greenfield road, and had reached the summit of Black Hill.
After all the torrential rain and thunderstorms, they set out on their return journey only to find that the small brook they had crossed on the way out had turned into an impassible torrent.
Team members were able to use a mountain rescue stretcher as a bridge across a narrow point 200m upstream from the path, and deployed personnel with PFDs and throwlines as a precautionary measure. The party, other than being stranded, were fit and well.
At around 11pm on Friday night police were called to Darley Avenue in Athersley to reports that a man had been stabbed.
This Evening and Tonight: Showers or longer spells of rain are forecast through the evening and night.
For the second day running there were no deaths of people who tested positive for coronavirus in Scotland.
