A man who stabbed his wife of more than 40 years to death with a kitchen knife before cutting his own throat has been jailed for six years.
Sixty two-year-old James Bland of Bury Road in Radcliffe was found guilty of the manslaughter of his wife Carole Bland at Liverpool Crown Court.
On August 1 last year he stabbed his wife Carole a number of times in in a jealous fury after she admitted to him that she had been seeing another man. He then turned the knife on himself, cutting his own throat in an attempted suicide.
Police were called to the house later that morning and discovered the body of Carole and what they thought to be the body of James Bland.
However, on closer inspection the officers noticed that James was still alive and immediately performed first aid while they waited for an ambulance.
While he lay waiting for the ambulance, Bland admitted to police that he stabbed her following the breakdown of their marriage and Carole’s admission that she had been seeing someone else.
