The taxi driver, from Salford, was kidnapped by Islamic State militants last December, as he delivered aid in Syria. Locals turned out to light candles and gathered for a special service at Eccles Town Hall, where they prayed for his safe release.
Co-ordinator Irena Pistun said people in Eccles were "shocked" and "concerned" for Mr Henning's family since his capture.
