Report says West Country prisons "should close"

Five outdated prisons in the West Country should close, and a 3,000 capacity 'super-prison' be built near Bristol, according to a think tank. A report from The Policy Exchange says Dartmoor Prison along with The Verne, Portland, Guys Marsh and Dorchester in Dorset should all close.

It's part of a wider proposal for ten such units around the country, which the authors claim would save £600 million a year and reduce re-offending. But this is disputed by the Prison Reform Trust.
