Lindsey Russell has been named the new Blue Peter presenter after triumphing in a nationwide talent search.

The 23-year-old Bristol University student has become the 36th host of the long-running children's TV show after winning a viewer vote from a shortlist of three candidates.

Russell, who joins current hosts Barney Harwood and Helen Skelton in September, said: "I feel amazing. Thank you for voting for me so much.

"It's the best job in the world - you get to do incredible things. Right now it feels a little strange. I'm quite shaky."

Russell won the Blue Peter - You Decide! talent search, beating around 20,000 people applicants to the job.
