ShelterBox says it's moving on

The new head of Shelterbox says it must move on after the controversial sacking of its founder Tom Henderson. Alison Wallace was appointed chief executive five months ago.

She's determined the Helston based charity puts the past behind it and cements its position in the world of aid agencies. It's now trying to raise two million pounds to help Syrian refugees.

The founder of ShelterBox has spoken in public for the first time since he was controversially sacked from the Cornish charity.

Tom Henderson was accused by ShelterBox of trying to place an order with a firm which had links to his son, without telling the charity's board.

Mr Henderson told The West Country Tonight he'd done nothing illegal and the charity was looking for an excuse to get rid of him. He said the charity's board had tried to blacken his name in a campaign of character assassination.

Shelterbox said Tom Henderson had been dimissed for trying to place an order with a firm which had links to his son without telling the charioty's board.

Today [Thursday], Mr Henderson told ITV West Country he hadn't tried to set up a deal and he had done nothing illegal.

The Cornish charity Shelterbox has today revealed for the first time why it sacked its founder Tom Henderson. It said he tried to set up a six hundred and fifty thousand pound contract with a company run by his son to supply goods to the charity.

Tom Henderson strenuously denies any wrongdoing. Steve Hardy reports.
