ShelterBox accuses founder

The Cornish charity ShelterBox this afternoon revealed why it sacked its founder Tom Henderson. It said Mr Henderson had tried to set up a contract with a company run by his son to supply goods to the charity.

It said his son's company would have made £650,000 from the deal. ShelterBox said they were not consulted about the possible contract.

ITV West Country has learned that the founder of Shelterbox is suing the Cornish charity.

Tom Henderson was sacked from his post as chief executive earlier this year. He is taking his case to an industrial tribunal claiming he was wrongly and unfairly dismissed.

Mr Henderson is still waiting for the result of an internal investigation by the charity after he appealed against his sacking.

Shelterbox - a charity in crisis?

The second-in-command at the Cornish charity Shelterbox, has resigned just weeks after its founder was controversially sacked.

Lasse Petersen told staff the dismissal of Mr Henderson marked a sad day for the charity. Our Cornwall Correspondent Steve Hardy reports.

Today Shelterbox said that, as Mr Henderson is appealing the decision to sack him, it is unable to comment further. It did say that it hopes that the appeal process will start some time next week.

Shelterbox did add that it was its understanding that Lasse Petersen's resignation had nothing to do with Tom Henderson's dismissal.

MP backs ShelterBox founder

A Cornish MP says he backs the sacked chief of one of the region's best known charities.

Tom Henderson was removed from his post as chief executive of ShelterBox yesterday. Mr Henderson founded the charity twelve years ago.

Andrew George, MP for St Ives, says he is unhappy about the way the matter's been handled.
