The Metro line between Tynemouth and Shiremoor has been closed for the next fifteen days.

The closure is part of a multi million pound project to replace the track.

Replacement buses are running between the stations, every six minutes at peak times.

Services are expected to resume on Sunday the third of April.

Nexus, the public body which owns and manages the Tyne and Wear Metro, say it's about future-proofing the line:

The works that will commence consist of track renewals work and drainage installation works, and it's important work in terms of keeping the asset life going here in this part of the network, so the works that we will be undertaking will see the track future proofed for about 50 years to come."
